Phenomena - ABC Science Docuseries
Experimental documentary series Phenomena, explores the patterns of nature & the forces that create them. All visuals are captured by camera, through practical experiments, without the use of CGI. A psychedelic journey from chaos to geometry - where art and science collide to explore the patterns and evolution of nature - and our relationship to it.
Emme Orbach is a visual artist in the Matter episode, showing crystal growth of various salt chemicals: The shape of matter is temporary. Under changing temperatures, a saltwater mixture transforms from liquid into a kaleidoscope of crystals.
Created by filmmaker Josef Gatti, with music by Kim Moyes (The Presets), produced by Rob Innes Pictures. On ABC TV (on-demand through iView and ABC Science’s Youtube), supported by Screen Australia and Film Victoria.

Phenomena at Melbourne Museum
Worlds Immersive is a 5-minute cinematic journey from the origin of the universe, through the building blocks of nature, to explore the patterns and connections that bind us and the natural world together.
A five channel projection with mesmerising imagery and music from Phenomena Documentary — art and science collide to reveal a unique perspective on nature. As forces of nature are manipulated, naturally occurring patterns reveal the underlying laws of the universe and the connection between all things. Each pattern corresponds to a natural phenomenon. Including, energy, heat, waves, light, electricity, magnetism, gravity, magnitudes and evolution.
Using state of the art motion capture technology, all imagery in Worlds Immersive is created without the use of CGI and is true to the natural world. Projected through Melbourne Museums Learning Lab immersive projection, the incredible motion imagery and music of Worlds Immersive encompasses the senses — creating an experience that explores and celebrates science, nature, and the universe.
Exhibited at Melbourne Museum Learning Lab from January to April 2021.
